Madeleine van Manen

­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Madeleine studied Fine Art Painting at the then Port Elizabeth Technikon (now Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University) under Vivian van der Merwe. After leaving art school, she worked in the advertising and publishing industry for two decades, owned and ran a small gallery before finally getting an opportunity to start working as an artist full time. She currently works from her studio in Breë Street, Cape Town, doing mainly painting and experimental prints.

Other Projects

2009                            Establish my own home-based gallery In Pretoria (Jupiter Art Room) where numerous exhibitions were held (upcoming and established artists, as well as old masters) until my move to Cape Town

2010 -                          Collaborative work: Creating illustrations using the photography of Linda Orsmond.

2014, 2016                  Illustrated two books of short stories for Namibian author, Oswald Rall Theart for KreativSA.

2014 – present            Full time artist


2012                            Teach part time at a farm school in Durbanville for children of farm workers

2016                            Teach an autistic French immigrant (teenager) on a voluntary basis

2018 – 2019                Teach young special needs teenager in all drawing and painting disciplines

2018 – present            Presenting small workshops in mixed media painting as well as fabric printing

2019 – present            Part-time Art teacher at Lycée Français du Cap (Gardens, Cape Town)

                                    Extra-mural art teacher at the French primary school in Seapoint.
