Karin studied fine art at Ruth Prowse School of
Art, Cape Town and graduated with distinction in 2022. She has exhibited at AVA,
Ebony Curated, Rust en Vrede, Kommetjie Solo Studios and Everard Read.
For Karin visual art is a good way of exploring and
communicating ideas about our shared world. Her work currently focuses on the
environmental crisis we are facing and our current apathetic response. The
sleeping figures on couches, set in strange panoramas that merge interiors with
land and seascapes, speak of our failure to act decisively to combat climate
change and plastic waste. We are all sleeping.
The 2D acrylic/oil/mixed media and the 3D found
object work are simultaneously unsettling and appealing, playful and serious,
dark and light, much like our ever-challenging experience in this beautiful
ugly world.
