Greta McMahon

Greta McMahon (1970 - ) works from her studio at 12 Sending Street, Riebeek–West.

Born in Wellington, South Africa, Greta completed a National Diploma in Theatre Technology at the Technicon of Pretoria in (1988-1990) and a BA Fine Arts at the Michealis School of Fine Art, UCT (1993-1996). Since then she has participated in numerous group and six solo exhibitions in South Africa and abroad in Ireland and Holland, and in 2005 she was an ABSA Atelier Awards Finalist.

Greta uses a variety of media and techniques such as painting, collage, drawing and clay; all the time attempting to integrate aspects of our somewhat polarized existence into an experience of wholeness, awareness and openness. Through her art, she honors and explores mythology, archetypes, dream language symbols, magical realism and an array of polarities such as darkness/light, masculine/feminine, conscious/subconscious, above/below and life/death.

Artworks by Greta have been included in the corporate collections of Hollard, Nando’s and Spier, as well as private collections in South Africa, Holland, Norway, the United State of America, the United Kingdom, UAE and Ireland.
