ARTIST STATEMENT:

I combine images and symbols from popular culture, classical and world mythology, medieval manuscripts, tattoo culture, comic strips and more to create paintings that have very little pre-determined narrative or intent.

I am less concerned with artistic skill and the formal elements of painting and more interested in colour, expression and spontaneity. I recently swapped oil paint for (“lesser”) acrylic paint. Its’ quick drying properties allow me to work faster and it makes layering, adjustments and cleaning a lot easier. I love the saturated, contemporary feel and association of acrylics.

I am particularly inspired by the work of “outsider” artists and contemporary artists Tal R, Rose Wylie and Frederick Naeblerod are a few of my favourites painters
