Pascale Chandler (b. 1963) is a contemporary South African artist based
in Cape Town, with a career spanning more than four decades. Best known
for her expressive equestrian paintings, she explores the animal form
and movement through gestural mark-making, layered veils of ink and
abstraction.
The horse remains a central subject in her practice,
embodying sculptural strength, vulnerability and the tension between
instinct and control. Working across mixed media, oil and works on
paper, Chandler creates evocative images that balance technical skill
with emotional intensity, leaving space for ambiguity and personal
interpretation.
A respected artist and teacher, she previously
played an active role in Durban’s art community. Her work has been
exhibited widely and is held in private and public collections in South
Africa and internationally.
