Wim Smit

Born in 1986 in Cape Town, Western Cape. His upbringing was divided between Cape Town and Pretoria.

Wim is a multidisciplinary artist focusing on painting, drawing, music and sculpture. The blending of different styles and mediums allows him to remain experimental in his pursuit of complete artistic immersion. Channeling music acts as a push and pull that relates to painting, drawing and sculpture - trying to achieve an instinctive flow of expression.

Wim Smit is full time employed and creates all his dreams and aspirations at night and on weekends. He currently resides in Stellenbosch. His paintings can be seen in local galleries such as Gallery88 in Paarl and “Art and Wine” in Stellenbosch. His latest group exhibitions include the 2024 Toyota Woordfees group exhibition and “art can help” group exhibition at Local Works gallery in Stellenbosch.

Regarding Unbound:

These sculptures were made in a similar fashion as an abstract painting.

The clay guides me

Conversation turns me

The obstruction of the necessary “hollow” refrain me

Working with this ancient medium called clay, I feel profoundly connected to the ones that came

before me.
