INGRID PIPREK (1930-)

In 2007, Ingrid Piprek painstakingly crafted a moving collection of fiber artworks documenting her wartime experiences in Germany during World War II. Chronicling her teenage years from fourteen to sixteen, these artworks vividly capture her journey as the Soviet forces advanced from the east towards the war's conclusion. Escaping towards the west, she shares her life under Soviet occupation and her eventual quest for freedom in West Germany. Now, at the age of 93, she remains resolute in her mission to impart the lessons of war's futility to future generations.

Seventy-seven years later, Europe is haunted by the echoes of history as familiar and chilling scenes resurface.  Ingrid's memories, chronicled in a book written by her son Klaus titled "AFTERMATH - MAKING ART FROM WAR," delve deeply into these experiences.

The book will be available for sale, with all proceeds dedicated to supporting the operations of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Krakow, Poland, specifically for Ukrainian refugees.
