What does it mean to be inspired? The word ‘inspiration’ comes from the latin word inspirare which literally translates as ‘blow into, breathe upon’. Inspirare means to inspire, excite, to rouse, guide and to put breath, life and spirit into the human body. For Blow into, breathe upon… the artists were invited to respond to the same three sources of inspiration: a piece of music, a poem and a photograph and to produce an artwork in response to each source of inspiration. This exhibition attests to the notion that, faced with the same sources of inspiration, each artist will respond in a unique and individual way.
