31 Main Street, Riebeeck Kasteel, Riebeek-Kasteel, South Africa
A salon-style group exhibition exploring the colour BLUE in its myriad tones, associations and metaphors.
The
colour blue has an association of open spaces, intuition, imagination and
represents both the sky and sea. Historically the origin of blue pigments used
by painters is rich in meaning as it is in hues. “Ultramarine’ for example,
comes from the Latin oltramarino meaning ‘from beyond the seas.’
Literally describing the journey of lapis lazuli, the pigment used in
ultramarine, to the East and West from the far-flung areas in the world where
it was mined.
‘If you see a tree as blue, then make
it blue.’
Paul Gauguin
