ROOM is an invitational group exhibition at RK Contemporary that explores the multifaceted idea of space — physical, emotional, psychological, and political. A room can be a refuge or a constraint, a memory or a metaphor. It can represent the deeply personal or the socially constructed. The exhibition invites each artist to respond to the concept of “room” in their own distinct visual language.
The intention behind ROOM is to open a quiet yet expansive conversation around how we inhabit, define, and are shaped by space. The word itself is simple — almost spare — yet loaded with implication. Each participating artist is encouraged to explore their own interpretation:
• A room as sanctuary, solitude, or confinement
• The architecture of memory
• The politics of access and exclusion
• The interplay between internal and external spaces
• The aesthetics of interiors — emotional, architectural or imagined
By bringing together the artists distinct voices, ROOM becomes a composite of artistic responses to space — literal or abstract, observed or constructed, comforting or unsettling.
